Greening Oakland Homes is an all volunteer, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to address global warming and our environment at a local level. Established in 2009, Greening Oakland Homes is an independent group of local citizens affiliated with Montclair Community Action Group.
Our Purpose:
- To encourage Oakland residents to take practical steps to reduce their home’s environmental impact.
- To inform your choices and facilitate these efforts, we are bringing together Oakland residents and local contractors, suppliers and service providers through neighborhood fairs, seminars and online.
- This website provides links to government programs, agencies, green organizations, as well as local contractors, vendors and suppliers.
Why Oakland, Why Now?
- Climate change effects Oakland. In July 2009, the Oakland City Council approved a preliminary planning GHG emissions reduction target for the year 2020 at 36% below 2005 levels, on a path toward reducing GHG emissions by more than 80% below 2005 levels by 2050.
- Residential energy consumption in Oakland can be reduced with your individual commitment to these efforts.
- On this site you’ll learn what can be done to save money, energy and the environment. And you’ll be able to learn from local suppliers, including what works and doesn’t work on greening projects.
